WIngate and VPN

Hi,

This may seem like a silly question, but I will ask it anyway.

If I purchase Wingate Enterprise, will I also need to buy Wingate VPN to allow users to dial into the server or does the VPN bit comes with Wingate Enterprise?

Actually, you will still need licenses for the remote joiners. The Enterprise license gives your host server a VPN license, and this license permits machines on the same LAN as the WinGate server to join the VPN.

Each installation of WinGate requires its own license, so if you have 3 laptops who will be connecting to the network then you will need 3 x single user licenses in addition to the Enterprise license.

Or, if you have a remote office with 3 users then you would need 1 x 3 user Gateway license in addition to the Enterprise license.

Why would local PC's want to join the VPN?

Here's anoter question, what if you have wingate and watchguard running at the same time but use watchguard to allow users to connect using VPN?

My client will have 4 public IP's and one of the will be used for the watchguard and the other for wingate. Both the watchguard and proxy server will be connected to a switch which will be connected to a cisco router which is fed by a T1.

I have tested this scenario at the office lab and it works just fine. You just have to configure the WAN and LAN cards in the proxy server properly.

Hmm, perhaps I could have phrased it better. If you want remote machines to be able to see the LAN machines at the host location, or if you want the LAN machines at the host location to be able to see the remote machines, you'll need a gateway license.

So you'd use Watchguard for the VPN access, and WinGate to share the internet connection for your LAN? There shouldn't be a problem with that, it looks like Watchguard is a hardware appliance so you shouldn't get any conflicts with WinGate.

So that means that if I have three remote laptop users users then in addition to Enterpise I will need to purchase three separate single user licenses at $54 each !!
