Proxy conundrum

Postby ngrayson » Mar 13 11 10:07 pm

Hi guys,

I'm using transparent redirect onthe proxy and policies on the extended networking to allow specific machines to use certain ports.

I have a panasonic PVR and thet have just introduces BBC Iplayer which uses HTTPS on port 80. I dont want to generally allow this just that machine. Is it possible where do I create the exception, in the proxy of the extended networking?

Hi Neil

the port security settings which govern the interception of connection to the web proxy don't have any facility for exclusions, so if you have connection interception turned on for port 80, then all client computers will be intercepted.

using HTTPS on port 80 is pretty problematic therefore, since WinGate won't negotiate a SSL connection with the client that it intercepted, and so SSL will break for that client computer.

I find it actually hard to believe anyone in their right mind would use https on port 80 - are you certain this is the case?

googling iPlayer I don't see any mention of https.
