Idea for this Forum: User Ideas for future WinGate versions

Postby ChrisN » Nov 13 03 11:59 pm

Just an idea for this forum..

Could you create a subject for customers to recommend anything
to be added to the new releases of Wingate?

Thanks!
ChrisN.

Idea for a future release of Wingate.

Postby ChrisN » Nov 14 03 12:48 am

Bandwidth management.

Certain users have only 2k/sec max speed and administrators have
full speed.

I know its possible because there is a program called bandwidthcontroller
that does it for windows.

uPNP and Individual Bandwidth Monitoring

Postby dataking » Nov 14 03 2:53 am

a very good and welcome
feature would be to add Universal Plug-n-Play support. - allowing users to send/recieve files thorugh instant messaging services such as MSN along with carrying out Voice/VoIP conversations.....

re bandwidth : if the option of CONTROLLING bandwidth cannot be added in, as i remember having a discussion with one of the Qbik people a while back, they said the reason they were not inplementing bandwidth throttling was becasue of dropped packets or somehitng....well..if you could enable the admins to VIEW the bandwidth being chewed up by individual users, it would definately help us out!!...this way we can manually limit the connections, or monitor window output and write scripts to do the rest....

summarizing :
1. uPNP
2. Individual Bandwidth Monitoring(and throttling(per session/per user) if possible)

best regards!

Shayan

P.S.

the above features have already been successfully implemented in rival products such as Winroute and ISA server. small unknowns like CCProxy also support BWmon....i would be great to see wingate crush the competition!!...

I think to keep things simple they've decided to keep all things WinGate under one heading.

WinGate
Use this forum to post questions relating to WinGate, feature requests, technical or configuration problems

WinGate's growth and popularity relies on user feedback including requests for features. If it works for you, you'll recommend WinGate to your peers so it's good for us and Qbik too!

Qbik really counts on us, the user community, to tell them what we'd like to see in WinGate so they can make the product even more successful.

Many of us have seen a "why doesn't WinGate do this" question turn into a popular feature.

Bandwidth limiting has been one of the most requested features. I think it's been mentioned for a future release.

Anyone else have an ideas?

Tell Qbik what you like, dislike and what you'd like to see in future versions!

They only way they'll know is if we tell them!

1. 1-NIC support (serverside)
2. Chat to Clients (and also client-to-client via WGIC)
3. Client remote control/admin
4. Check Clients` machine infos (MACaddress, OS, etc)
5. Directory server for clients` shared files/folders
6. Restart WGengine option in scheduler, not just WGservices.
7. Open for ThirdParty Plugins that we can script on our own
8. Cross-Platform (when will WinGateX final released?)

I know some of this features is available with simple commandline command or 3rd party softwares. But with these feature built-in, WinGate can enforce its userfriendly nature even more.

Just a couple more ideas!

1) Allow only certain ip's / ranges to connect to mapped ports (Port Security).

2) Dialer: Autoreconnection (eg. persistent).. I had to buy a third party program.

Dialer

Postby inharry » Nov 15 03 4:27 am

Hi!
(please excuse my english)

1. You can achieve this by creating "TCP mapping service" or "UDP mapping service", with "All interfaces" binding and "User Locartion" IP filter.

I´m using this for sharing SMTP server with only 2 internet host (filtered by IP number) outside my wingate server.

2. Wingates dialer *do* the persistent connection via PPP Modem or PPPoE.
Runs fine. Dials on demand, via user request or DNS solver.
Check your dialer configuration. (you must click on two checkboxes to make dialer works)

I hope this help.
Regards,
Homero.

Hi all,

With the outbreak of SWEN virus in Australia I'm trying to convince clients [even on a standalone system] to buy and upgrade to Wingate as a 'defence' to the hostile environment that really basic internet usage is becoming. The ability to scutinise various data streams is a huge strength, plus the benefits of the firewall goes without speaking.

However that is another point.

A right click menu for the A/v from the Systray Icon of GateKeeper to access directly the scanning feature.

In the A/v plugin, an ability to schedule disk scans say on a daily basis at low disk usage times.

Protection for removable media, just not sure how this could work but it would be 'ace'

Thanks...

Nev.

First of all Hello...
yeah me also want to know what r these POINT "VreebieS" want to discribe..

1. 1-NIC support (serverside)
ans...it allready there..and it can support even more dynamic IP to one NIC..if ur using win2000...

2. Chat to Clients (and also client-to-client via WGIC)
ans... as far i think this is not a handy feature...clients can install what many server less cost free applications like ..LAN-chat..POPUP....lan messanger...why PUT Load on our qbik Team....

3. Client remote control/admin
ans..it's all ready there..

4. Check Clients` machine infos (MACaddress, OS, etc)
ans....as far as i know u can see NIC macaddress by right clicking on the Client name ..and click properties.......and as for OS..each client need a NETBIEU protocol install in each machine.....

5. Directory server for clients` shared files/folders
ans...just for a sec i was thinking that "is this a internet sharing software or........u know what i am trying to say"...

6. Restart WGengine option in scheduler, not just WGservices.
ans..that's a nice one..i want that too..

7. Open for ThirdParty Plugins that we can script on our own
ans...i like that too but third parties allways make ISSUes....compatability Probelms...and allready wingate is full of issues....sorry the truth is truth.

8. Cross-Platform (when will WinGateX final released?)
ans....let's HOPE for it...

---------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------

and if u don't mind i am going to add a little more...

9. More Realiable Cache.....all in one file just like ISA server...may advants's to doing this... the Disk will not make Fragmented Files...
disk will in a Cluster chane form.......

10.. Up date able Cache also with Shedule timing..when the traffic load is low......

11..just thinknig about a feature if qbik can put it in...just like ISA server interprise edition.....u make a ISA server a Array server... now this array server can serve Up-to-date Cache to the diffrent sub ISA servers....

I think u will understand my BAD english...sorry...
i will add this later

HI last night since my last post..i was thinking about some new features for wingate...
SO today i need to do somelike this with my cache polices....

in the purge Polices tab..
if url ends with (.gif) and time science last HIT (24)
then purge
if not do nothing
end if
----------------
but i can't do this...

some thing like java script....
this will help alot....
in the polices tab there must two modes..1: Normal mode...2. expert mode.
in the normal user interface user can only click and drag and add parameters
and in the expert mode
user can type scripts by self..

one more example

if the username = "max3do" and byets recived for client =< 5000000
then user can use this service
if not user cannot use this service
end if
---------------------------------
i will add this later
