problem wtih ip conflicts

Postby trace » Jan 18 06 1:54 pm

Hi ! first i wanna thank you for making this program ! it`s verry cool and the best i think for os :) !
I have a problem , i have a small network and i allways have problems with the ban per mac part because :( i ask this before and no answer )

let`s say there is one lan with 3 ussers

a. wingate 6.04 server pc standard instaled

b. two ussers usser1 online and usser2 offline

c. usser1 has ip - 192.168.1.2 mac 00-00-00-01 and usser2 has ip 192.168.1.2 mac 00-00-00-8

d. when the usser1 goes offline and the usser2 goes online the wingate see the usser2 like usser1 with the name and mac adress from usser1 !

this is verry bad because if i set a rule to ban the mac of usser1 the usser 2 may have problems or if i ban the usser2 still can acces the internet same problems happens when is an ip conflict !
( sry for the english :P)

Regards !!!

Why would you have the same IP address assigned to different computers on the network?

You should still assign the two different computers different ip addresses. For example: User 1 gets IP 192.168.1.2 and user 2 gets IP 192.168.1.3.

This will help with the network conflicts, which is something you need to resolve forst.

Then, using Wingate, you can make sure that 192.168.1.3 will have no access to the internet.

lol !! i explain simple : when first usser is offline and sombody enters on the network with his ip; the wingate remembers the change of the name and mac forever when the firs usser goes online again in wingate apears with the name of inlegal usser an mac to !!!!

Now I thought about your problem > 20 minutes - but I can't fully understand you... Try to remember:

1. Your problem is your wrong configured network where duplicate IP adresses are used or
2. Your network works well but somebody tries to use illegal IP adresses?

What are you using for assigning IPs (DHCP or statically assigned)?
What does small network mean (at home??) how many machines?

How do you ban MAC adresses on which services? You're talking about the DHCP properties/policies?????? AFAIK if you ban a MAC there it will not get a new IP.

And what do you use for auth - NTLM (wingate client or...)? How does your policies look llike on your used services (WWW,NAT etc.).

Please give some more details and describe exactly where and what you configured

THX
