Wingate 6.1 Issues...

Postby kiwi007 » Mar 22 06 1:23 pm

I have been scratching my head for some time on this strange problem...After i installed wingate 6.1 - not that it was trouble free installing but after much efforts made it work without ENS.

I did get some complaints from some users regarding the speed from day one.I was not not sure whether it was our service provider or my network.I tried browsing directly it didnt show any problems.Just to make sure called up my service provider made him check all the lines and they figured that my wireless device and the AB unit may require a reset.I did that and checked again.Direct browsing was still very fine .No problems at all .When i go through proxy speed gets limited.(I dont think its speed .. speed is still good but for some reason the graphics doesnt load ....)

I have noticed one very odd thing. Each time I load a website the text gets loaded and hangs for the graphics. So i tried refreshing it.Yes the page displayed completely. So i thought may be the problem is on IE on my computer or on the server.Tried again in other computer the output was same.Later today I came to find out from my users that they have the same /similar version of the problem. Each time they hit refresh button the whole page loads.

Is there anything that I have not done correctly on my wingate server...?Is there any setting that i need to do on server. I was following the advices from

http://forums.qbik.com/viewtopic.php?p=21931#21931 this post .

One more thing when i try to do a version check directly from wingate gets an error saying that some undefined varible and tells me that I am using version 0.0.0.

Notice: undefined variable: HTTP_HOST in c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wingate_com\updatecheck.cfm on line 25

is the exact version.

I tried looking through the log files. On the system log the output was just date and time...

Nothing else... is this normal or am i supposed to get something else with it ?

Did the wwwproxy server log to debug ..

nothing much .. I guess by" response code 200 " means OK.

I am not sure where or what to look for ? I have a wild guess may be NAT problems.. since i havent installed ENS..Not sure about this..

Thanks

Thanks, with more in depth cases it's often easier to work with than trying to do it over the forum.

Seems like this problem has been solved .I have disabled caching and it seems working fine...
I had two installations Both of them had the same problem with caching enabled... disabled caching and seems to be working fine...

Out of curiosity - do you see this mostly with the NZ Herald website? I get it there a lot as well and yes, disabling caching seems to affect it.

We're investigating that now, but it looks as if the Cache can become poisoned. In that case, running a purge on it resolves it. (Did for me when I was reproducing this issue)

Pascal,
Yes .I see this on NZ herald website.Actually on wingate 6.0 it was a real problem.I just asked users to refresh the pages to correct the problem.During that time we had limited Internet quota as well which made us to keep the caching.

Wingate 6.1 the same problem persisted but together with it - it showed other problems of pages not loading(mostly cached- if I am guessing correct or may be it was trying to cache while a new request was being made). It was stopping half way when the page was loading. As i told before i thought it will be NAT.Then suddenly for just trial sake i disabled cache and everything came back to a normal state.

I did purge the cache to test.. Still the "page loading stops between " persisted.
