Basic Authentication

Postby noname » Jun 23 06 11:37 pm

I wonder what is Basic Authentication (in WWW Proxy Settings) and how can I use it. Any ideas?..

(From the help file; keyword search BASIC) Plain: The least secure authentication available. Clients with browsers that support *basic* authentication can use this method, regardless of whether WinGate is using its own user database or the Operating System/Remote database. If WinGate is using Operating System/Remote user database we suggest using NTLM option, as this is far more secure.

Extra Info:

**Please note, because BASIC Authentication is considered less secure than other methods, when you set up the policies to require authentication, you need to set it at the level of "User may be Assumed"

*Same for Assumed by IP Address.
*Same for Assumed by Computer name.

**NTLM needs the Windows User Database selected, and a policy level of "User must be Authenticated"
**Java login needs the WinGate User Database selected, and a policy level of "User must be Authenticated"

***Basic can be used with WinGate or Windows User DB
***Java VM can be downloaded from www.java.com
