Request vs ProxyRequest Event/Policy

Postby ibraheems » Sep 09 14 1:14 pm

Hi...

Could you briefly explain what the difference is between a Request and a ProxyRequest when looking at the Events Tab of a WWW Proxy Server Service?

I'm confused as to which one is triggered by what and when...

Thanks!

Hi

There are 3 types of HTTP request that WinGate distinguishes:

* proxy request - a request made using WinGate as a proxy, to an upstream server
* server request - a request made using WinGate as a web server. This also covers reverse proxy scenarios.
* connection request - a request made to open a generic connection / tunnel through WInGate. This is most commonly used for https.

These are all deemed requests as well, so the Request event is pushed for any type of request, and then additionally the ProxyRequest event is pushed immediately following in the case where the request was a proxy request. And so forth for the other types of request.

So you can implement policy in the Request event which will apply to all type of requests, or you can be selective about the type.
