Internet of Things

Postby ChadRA » Aug 05 15 4:16 am

Hi Adrian,

Has any thought been given to changing the number of concurrent users for each tier of licensing now that so many devices are "internet enabled"? i.e. leave the base free version with 3 concurrent, then double the concurrent users for each paid version? For myself I now have the std 6 concurrent license and have found that between phones which always seem to want to be connected, a couple IP cameras, and various laptops and computers in my house I reach the 6 concurrent limit regularly... but just cannot justify the extra cost to upgrade my license at home.

Thanks,
Chad (~20 year Wingate user and license holder)

Hi Chad

it's definitely a growing issue with the increased prevalence of internet-connected devices.

We've been mooting increasing the size of the free license, but it does make it difficult for the smaller paid licenses.

Having said that, there are still a couple of valid reasons why someone would for example pay money for a 3 user Standard license, such as

* it allows the 3 user count to be added to the total allowed users (unlike the free license which can't be aggregated)
* it allows someone running WinGate 6.x (or anything prior to 7.2) to have a 3 user license, since 6.x didn't support the free license.

We definitely have it on our radar

Hi Adrian,

I may be wrong, but from what you said it sounds like a paid concurrent license should allow that many concurrent users *in addition to* the 3 free concurrent users, so in my case since I'm paying for a 6 concurrent user license I should be able to have 9 concurrent connections (3 free plus 6 paid)? Or am I not reading it correctly?

Thanks,
Chad.

Hi

no, it can't add its count to any other license.
