Wingate stops passing traffic

Postby SpaceJelly » Apr 07 16 10:52 pm

Hi there,

Just had an interesting problem. Wingate has been happily working for a few weeks then at 9:55 this morning it stops passing all traffic. The service is running and using lots of CPU. The management console won't log in, it just stays at the blank grey screen.

I tried restarting the service from services.msc but it just hangs, so the service is killed and it then starts fine. Once restarted everything is working fine for about 45 minutes but then it happens again! This time I rebooted the server and it's back again now.

At each time that Wingate stops processing I see the WWW Proxy Server Diagnostic log filling up with hundreds of entries all with the same Text and IP Address:

Source: WWW Proxy Server
IP Address: 255.255.255.255
Text: Caught unknown exception in CTCPSession::InitInstance() - terminating

The thread ID changes for each entry. Context and Event ID Are 0

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Many thanks,

Neil

Hi Neil

that sounds pretty unusual. The IP address is not valid for a client connection.

Is WinGate using a lot of threads as well? Can you still not log in with WinGate management?

We may need to take a look remotely at your system. If you'd like us to do that, please send an email to support@wingate.com and we can tee up a teamviewer session.

Hi Adrien,

When Wingate stops passing traffic, I cannot access the Wingate management console. If I either reboot the server, or kill and restart the Wingate engine service then I can access again.

I've just checked the number of Threads that Wingate is currently using and it's between 750 and 800 with 350,000 K of Memory useage. CPU fluctuates from around 5% - 35%. When it stops passing traffic, the CPU is up around 50% +

It's Windows 2012 and is on a VMware that lives on a HP server, Zeon E5430 2.66GHz cpu. There are 4 vCPU's allocated (2 sockets, 2 cores) 4GB RAM.

Happy for you to take a look if necessary, however if there's some performance tweaks that can be done, I'm happy to try this first.

Thanks,

Neil

Hi

is that a DL380 or DL360 G6>

I'd be interested in what sort of RAID controller is on there also, specifically whether it has write caching enabled.

I can take a look if you like

It's a DL360 G5

It's a smart array P400i controller. FW: 2.10
Battery backed. So write cache is enabled.

Hi Adrien,

So far so good. I've noticed a decrease in CPU usage for each installation. Though the memory usage is the same.

I'm continually monitoring these so any issues will be spotted very quickly!

Thanks,

Neil
