HTTPS through proxy for one site

Postby pbx111111 » Nov 22 16 7:27 am

Hello,

I have a following problem. I have an internal application which runs on a server without internet access. Now there's a need to allow connection to one URL over HTTPS. The rest must remain blocked. I can't whitelist the IP on the firewall, because they frequently change it. The though is to use WinGate as a outbound proxy for a single URL... And I'm a little confused how to set that up.

So.
1. The target URL is https://www.someserver.com/api?test=1

2. WinGate is installed on server which have access to the internet

3. Created WWW Proxy Service using the following
Action=Reverse proxy
server=www.someserver.com
port=443
Use SSL/TLS True

Problems:
1. The service wouldn't start with bindings to port 443 on a newly added internal: IP 10.11.0.2
2. The service starts with binding to any other port (4433) on 10.11.0.2, but if I start using http://10.11.0.2:4433/api?test=1 it doesn't work.

while https://www.someserver.com/api?test=1 works fine from the server where WinGate runs.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you
Gennady

Hi Gennady,

If your WinGate service won't bind to the adapter on that port then it sounds like something is already running on that port. If you do a NETSTAT -ANO command you can find the Process ID of the service that is listening on that port, then find that Process ID in Task Manager to see what the application is.

Matt

Hi Matt,

It was the IIS service taking over port 443 even though it didn't have sites configured on port 443. Thank you.

What about the rest of my question? :)

Thanks
Gennady

Hi Gennady,

Now that the service is binding to port 443 have you tested the reverse proxy? Have you entered a host header for it?

We recommend setting up a new site in your Server tab of the WWW proxy and leaving the default action to deny.

If you're still having problems, what are you having problems with?

Thanks,

Matt
