wingate 5.1

Postby hourani » Nov 26 03 9:32 pm

Hi .

i have a problems with the Wingate 5.1 , which is , i cant stop a client from using the internet , i did assign for every user an IP , when i make disable to that IP , the client change his IP to another on and work ,
i was using another program , you can just allow the client to use the internet if his IP and MAC address match the list on the server , so , is there a way to make the same in the wingate
thanks

In Policies/Advanced you can enter both the IP address and MAC address of a client you wish to ban.

Hello,

In my experience, unfortunately, the MAC policy doesn't work if you are assuming users. If WG DHCP server assigns IP addresses then it knows the MAC addresses of the NIC's. If a sneaky user statically changes his IP address to one that WG DHCP has assigned (and that machine is turned off, as an example), WG then assumes it is the legitimate user and assumes then that the MAC address is that which is assigned to that IP. Thus the sneaky user has rights of the legitimate user. You could try to set up a policy that would allow access if the MAC .AND. IP are valid, but WG doesn't check to see if the MAC address is in fact valid. It has assumed it is. IMHO, authentication is best way to ensure users are who they are supposed to be.

what do you mean by connection termination?

Do you mean connections closing? Are new ones able to be opened?
