ENS driver does not load anymore after re-install

Postby Xander1978 » Nov 16 18 6:44 am

Hi,

I was trying the WinGate proxy software. When I first installed it, the ENS driver installed correctly and everything worked fine.

Then I decided to uninstall WinGate (why is not important right now).

But when I re-installed WinGate, suddenly the ENS part did not work correctly, displaying that the ENS driver is not installed (which is not true).

Does this happen more often?

we used to see this a few years ago, but not any more.

You'll probably find the driver is in the OS driver store, and you can get it installed by going into the network adapter properties in the OS, click the install button, choose service, and select the WinGate Network Driver.

You will need to reboot for this to take effect.

Regards

Hmm, the installer did install the driver. (The box was checked and I saw the text that it was installing it.)

However, it isn't listed under the services, if I go the network adapter properties.

Is there a way to install it manually?

I had to look for the .inf file and install that.

But after that, it was listed under the services. And I could install it from there.

And now it works again.

Thanks!

HI

unfortunately the only documented (by MS) way to update a network driver is to uninstall it and reinstall it. If anything happens in between it can end up in an uninstalled state. It would be wonderful if MS let us tell Windows we wanted to update the driver instead but they don't unfortunately.
