Request: save Gatekeeper's window position

Postby Clemens » Oct 29 06 6:40 am

Hi everybody,

I've been running Wingate for quite a long time, v5.0 till 6.1.4 now, but one thing has stayed the same, regardless of all the other enhancements and features that were added since:

The window of Gatekeeper always opens up at a different location than it was closed before

While this is not a real problem, it might be a nice idea to put this functionality in one of the next builds, what do you think?

HI

THat's odd. It remembers the position for me.

So you mean it always opens up small and in the middle of the screen?

It stores these settings in the registry, under HKEY_CURRENT_USER. If your login has restricted access to the registry, that may cause this.

Hi Adrien,

the window remembers the dimensions, but always adds about the height of the Windows taskbar to the distance from the lower edge.

That is, if I close Gatekeeper with a position of lower left corner just above the Start-button of the taskbar, the next time it opens up it still is on the left side, but the corner is shifted up.
Consecutive closes/openings without changing position shift up the edge even more, so if I don't move the window down, at some point it will open up out of the visible area of the desktop.

I had a look at the registry, there are two settings under HKCU\Software\Qbik Software\GateKeeper\Settings that change:
Crypt and Placement.

Login has full administrative rights on the machine, full access to the registry, OS is Win2000.
If you want, it's possible and it might help I can send you the log of the Regmon-Utility used to monitor the access.

Thanks,
Clemens

OK, that's weird I just tested again, putting GateKeeper just above the task bar.

Even with different combinations of auto-hide, and always on top, it still works fine, and remembers position and size (which is what we store).

This is on Win 2000 for me as well.

Is there anything else running on that machine that may mess with GateKeeper's ability to determine its window size or position?

The only thing coming to my mind that could interfere might be the dashboard-bar from the desktop firewall on top of the screen; but there are no such things as fancy graphics drivers that save the window position or any other programs that are related to window saving functions.

What programs could mess with Gatekeeper? Maybe there is something I am not aware about.

And even if we can't sort it out, it's fine by me; I got used to it, and since it is clearly not a problem you can fix because it's not related to Gatekeeper/Wingate, you shouldn't bother much.

Nevertheless, thank you very much for your support so far!
