Advisory - NICs using Flow Control cause Out of Buffer error

Postby adrien » Sep 26 03 10:40 pm

there are a number of network cards that by default come configured to use flow control.

We have only seen a couple of these, but include such popular ones as the Intel Pro/100+ range.

If you are using one of these cards on a WinGate machine with Transparent Redirection or using WinGate VPN, you are likely to encounter ENS memory warnings about running out of buffers.

You should go into the properties for the adapter, and make sure that software flow control or 802.3x flow control is disabled.

Retesting - maybe not flow control

Also had a program called ProMon running, which monitors the Intel Pro/100+ NIC... uninstalled this as well, so that may have been the cure.
