VPOP3

Postby ngrayson » Jan 19 04 1:57 am

Guys,

You made a posting some time back to get VPOP3 to use the Wingate proxy server.

I'd like to do this but my setup is slightly different and I dont fully understand your rules well enough.

I use vpop 3 with demons extensions so it logs onto my domain (changed for protection to billybob).

SO under the pop3 account username it says "billybob" which causes demon to download email for all users at this site, not just the one. VPOP3 then routes it to the accounts.

What username should I put under the pop3 account USername in VPOP to allow the wingate pop3 proxy to process it and get all usees email?

I'm not sure i fully understand your question. So is it Billybob.demon.co.uk your domain, but you only enter billybob in to the mail client as the demon.co.uk bit is picked up from the primary DNS suffix entry on the gateway PC?!

This should work just fine. So in this scenario, on the WinGate machine enter demon.co.uk as your DNS suffix. Then in VPOP, enter username#billybob:110 as your VPOP pop username and point VPOP through the WinGate pop3 proxy (the :110 bit isn't always strictly necessary, but its best to put it in).

I hope this helps,

Regards

Sorry for the delay in responding, I obviously did not explain to well.

Your right billybob is my domain. Lets say I have users ken, Lena & john.

The Demon POP3 server will work in two ways. If I say the username is billybob, it downloads all email for Ken, Lena & john in one shot and VPOP sorts it in to mail boxes. Alternately, you can set a pop3 username of ken+billybob and it will only send kens email.

I user the former method since one connection gets all, thus setting a username as you suggest of username#billybob I fear will only fetch that users email. The setting has to be billybob#????????? but I'm not sure what the ???? should be if anything.

As a second request, I would like to have my logging/auditing for wingate on another drive and I read in a posting that this was to become available soon. Is there a registry key which can be tweaked to change the log/audit paths. If not when is this to be implemented.

Thanks in anticipation.
