Hi,
first of all i have to say iam german so please excuse me my (maybe) bad english :)
I introduced WinGate this weeks to our Company by using a 50 User Licence. Basically everything is wroking fine. We use Wingate as simple hhtp-proxy (disabled most other services) and we dont use the END/Firwall/NAT Stuff..just kind apasthrough Proxy which will forward request to our DSL-Roputer/Firewall. Fine so far :)
Now after installion i created some Group e.g. "Internet-Users" and added all my users to this group which should have access to use the WWW-Proxy. I then went to Plocies of WWW-Proxy, set System-Polices to be ignored, added my UserGroup and selected "Users have to be authentificated. Workded fine too but accidently i added the Guest account into this group. So everyone who just press enter at the Java-Logon-Window got access. Later I removed Guest from this group but Guest was still able to loin and use WW-Proxy :( I stopped working on it and this morning Guest cant login anymore.
I now wonder if there is some delay after changes take effect on wingate, or if I better should restart the whole engine after changes ?
Then i have some other basic questions:
Our Virus-Scanner can update his signatures by using a proxy. But he needs to use *real* http-authentification...If i login through the JavaApplet i can update the signatures, but If i enter the some username/password in the "Proxy needs authentification" Field of our scanner , it cant update its signatures. Is there a way around this ?
Then i would like to limit bandwith per session so if someone is downloading some big file that the users have some bandwith left, is this possible ?
...can i do some "analyzing" of the Logfiles ? Maybe with some Add-on ? I mean i want to know how long and how much traffic was used by user X ?
And last thing , can users Chnage their Password without using GateKeeper ? As far as I understand GateKeepr is a admin-tool with which i can set permission, policies, add and remove Users and I dont want my users to have access to this tool.
Much thx
Heiko from Germany :)
