Generals - redirecting port

Postby bani » Jan 30 04 4:47 am

Hallo,
to play EA's Generals I have to redirect a certain port to my PC. So far I did it with Wingate's firewall port redirection. It works, but it doesn't seem fully stable.

Is it possible to do such redirection by creating a mapping service and could it be any better? If so - how should I do it? So far my attempts failed - mapping service I created didn't work (even though game started there was no info on Wingate that service was started and connection failed).

The Port Security Action would be your best bet. Is it a UDP or a TCP connection ? (Believe it's UDP, but just want to check) If you want to try the mapping service, disable / delete the Port Security Action (Firewall action) first.

Does Generals use DirectPlay ?

If you say it's the best method, I guess I'll stick to it. I just thought that maybe mapping would work better.

For the questions: it's UDP and I changed firewall action to Allow. It didn't work, but still there are some port&redirect fields to fill when creating a mapping service and I'm not sure if I filled them correctly. Can you tell me where exactly should I put port number&redirect IP and what options should be checked to make it do the job similiar to firewall redirecting?

I don't know if Generals use DirectPlay. All I know is that it makes connections to all the players plaing the game.

(I was on holidays, so couldn't reply earlier)

Right click on the Services pane in GateKeeper and select "UDP Mapping".

Enter an appropriate name for the service and in "Service Port" add the port you want to listen to.

Tick the "Enable default mapping to" and enter the IP address and Port number for Generals on your local machine in there.

You should setup the bindings and interfaces as well. (Binding should be external, Interface should be "Any") Note though that this will allow anyone who connects to that port to be redirected to your machine.

You might want to setup some appropriate Policies (Such as specifying IPs, if you know the people you'll be playing against)
