Does WingateVPN support IP based traffic queries.

Postby dusty_nz » May 04 04 12:59 pm

I am having difficulty understanding how the Wingate VPN impliments itself. All I can see reading through the manual is that it supports UNC naming convention but can't see if it does IP based traffic. Also confused as One should not be able to run without the other. I have connected but cannot see any changes in my local (client) ip based routing rules or an IP address for the connection so all the data can go down the tunnel.

Please help. Was really hoping to use this as a port 80 based VPN tunnel.

It's a routing based solution, but it will not add any routes (Apart from ones published with RIP) or create an additional interfaces.

WinGate VPNs driver handles routing between VPN endpoints for you, but for all of that to work, the clients (LAN PCs) need to know where to route traffic to. So, if you have a client behind a WinGate VPN Node, it needs to know how to get to the remote subnet. (Which you should direct through the VPN Gateway).

Have a look at the "Understanding WinGate VPN" document in our White Papers section, it has a fairly good explanation of how to configure it, etc.
