Does Wingate VPN modify the TCPIP settings in the registry?

Mar 06 04 5:50 am

Hi,

meanwhile we have purchased Wingate VPN, and it's running fine.

But I had big troubles, after I upgraded Windows 2000 to Windows XP. After the upgrade I could not connect to the network any more (the peer-to-peer network).

I had also installed Zonealarm and Wingate VPN, and I shutted down both engines.

When I run ipconfig.exe, the result was completely empty! I did not even get a IP address of 0.0.0.0 - I have got nothing.

I tried also ipconfig /renew and /reset, I used netsh int ip reset ip_reset.txt, and used a TCPIPFix-tool, that I have found in the internet. Nothing helped, and the network repair tool from Windows XP did not work either, because it told, that it could not get the TCPIP settings.

In the control manager everything was ok.

After I de-installed Wingate VPN and also Zonealarm, everything worked fine. I suppose, that one of these software packages have modified something in the registry? I am happy that everything is working now, but I would like to understand, what such tools are doing, so that the IP address becomes in accessible.

Best regards
Anila

It's now working also with Zonealarm. I had to re-install everything once more.

But maybe you can help in case of my other question (see Forum), because our college can not connect with his Windows XP to our Windows 200 computer.

Hi Anila,

WinGate does not make any changes to the TCP/IP information, but I'm not sure about ZoneAlarm. If you had run the Windows XP network wizard it would have changed some settings that would interfere with WinGate but I think this only concerns DNS. If you open the Network Neighbourhood properties, were you able to configure TCP/IP settings?
