Mar 25 04 1:07 am

Have a little problem with our VPN server - it doesn't seem to be listening on port 809!

I have checked the VPN configuation and it is aqll set to 809 and also the ENS says allow on 809 (UDP & TCP) but it just no listennig

Any ideas how to fix?

How did you establish that it was not listening ? Was the remote side refused a connection when it attempted to connect ?

Double check the VPN log files (You might need to enable debug logging on both ends) to see if there is a specific indication of the problem.

This topic (http://forums.qbik.com/viewtopic.php?t=1278&sid=b40a618adfe2453a12c1033dfd8f888f) is a rather involved discussion on various trouble-shooting steps you can go through to see where the problem is.

Last question is - has this setup been running for a while, or is it a fresh install ?[/url]

Thanks for that and in answer - nope, we have a leased line, into a router, into the VPN / Firewall machine and there are no forwardigs etc for 809!

Dont think it is a hardware problem as we can all see the internet, and normal emails is flowing in & out OK just the VPN is not functioning

2 ways - the remote client is getting a connection timeout error and i did a netstat -an on the server and there is no mention of port 809 anywhere (yet on another test install i did 809 is there and listneing)

No errors at all :(

If you like you can pop over to http://www.vpn.serveftp.net/php/index.php
And request a free connect to our VPN server and we'll look at what's happening from there.

Hmmm. Alright, so the VPN is not listening on port 809. When you open the VPN configuration, go to the general tab.

Double check that the port listed there is 809.

THanks for the offer, but manager to get it sorted!!

I played around a bit more and setup a test environment, 2 pcs - 1 VPN server, 1 client.

The server was listening on the VPN port 809 first time and the client connected first time no problems.

I then backed up me config of the server and did an upgrade to the software and rebooted, and as if by magic the server started listening on port 809!!

After altering the security settings of the VPN host, i managed to connect and browse the network perfectly!!!!!!

Thasnk again for all the suggestions
