accessing programs via VPN

Apr 29 04 9:44 am

Can I access programs on my host office computer from home computer? I have a specific accounting package that utilizes a lockbox on my server. Is Wingate VPN enough to let me access that program, or do I need an additional program like PC Anywhere?

Hi there

If your accounting package can work in/across a normal TCP/IP based network/Lan environment. (i.e. you can access it from one machine to another (lockbox server) when you are in the office.) then there is a good possibility you be able to use it in the WinGate VPN scenario.

WinGate VPN (without stating the obvious:-) extends your local network when the connection is established remotely, so it should behave the same way in handling shares/file access/application use.

WinGate VPN determines data movement through its routing of packets but plays no part in the manipulation of the data itself.

We have tested a variety of applications, (unfortunately no Accounting packages though ;-) But it would be worth giving a try.

Erwin

Thank you

Thank you! I'm still having trouble accessing the NT domain. But if I ever get to that point, I'll let you know how it turns out.

The accounting package requires a minimal "workstation" program be installed. I'll try to install that, and see if I can access the data.
