Hi all, I'm new here and in need of help. We have a small peer-to-peer network (workgroup) running Windows 2K. One machine acts as a gateway to the internet running BT Broadband. We also have Zonealarm Pro on each PC. We would like to use a laptop we have to access a database on the gateway PC from a customer's premises or just be able to work from home the odd time and access the shared netwrk files. We have attempted to use the built in VPN system in W2K without success and now we are here at Wingate VPN in the hope that we can make VPN work for us. By the way the laptop uses Windows XP Pro. Unfortunately I haven't had a lot of luck with Wingate so far but I am not a Netwrk specialist. The problems I have so far are:
The VPN blurb mentions three types of software, Host, client and peer-to-peer just go to the site and download a free copy of whichever of the three is appropriate, but when you get to the site there is only only one VPN download there or have I missed something?
Undaunted I downloaded the software available after first turning off the internet sharing on the gateway PC as advised by Wingate, but now the other machines are not able to get to the internet, do I have to turn internet sharing back on? Or is there something else I'm missing?

Hi there
WinGate VPN is required to installed at either end of the VPN connection. One end is setup to host a VPN (in your case the office) and one end is setup to join (laptop) the configured VPN.
WinGate VPN either comes in a standalone install, (software can be used to either host or join) or can be installed as an optional component of WinGate proxy server suite.
Unfortunately the current version of WinGate VPN(VPN only install) is not supported running on a machine that has MS Connection sharing running. This is due to change for the next release of WinGate VPN (due in the near future) however, as solution for you to be able to trial WinGate VPN and still provide internet connection sharing(ics) for your LAN, you could install WinGate (Full version) which allows you to trial WinGate VPN while still providing ics support through its proxy server services.
Hope this helps
Erwin
