VPN, Connection to remote host timed out.

I've setup VPN on the host computer and made sure that all the right ports were open, I've checked "this machine can be pinged from the internet" in extended networking.
I'm using no-ip software to keep my ip current as it changes.
But I still can't connect to the VPN. When I try to ping the remote host name, I get the ip address but the request will always time out.

Any ideas?

how is the server connected to the Internet?

I've solved this problem, it ended up being being a faulty adsl modem.
Now i can connect, but my client end will blue screen everytime.

The server is running win2k server and my client is a winxp pro both ends have adsl.

Any ideas?

I think the problem maybe SP1 for winxp.
I tested the VPN on a laptop without SP1 installed and worked fine.
This maybe worth a shot for people having the same problem.
