File sharing yes, what about applications?

Example:
Network 1 and network 2 are connected via Wingate VPN.

One machine on network 1 hosts a "LAN only" application.

A machine on network 2 launches the application which searches the LAN for hosts to connect to.

Does the machine on network 2 see the host via the application? So would they be virtually able to use the application as though they were on the same network?

It should work from the point of view that WinGate VPN extends your LAN to the remote location, however it may depend on how the application discovers the other LAN participants.
