I'd like to purchase wingate vpn but i'm confused. Help.

Hi I have tried the demo already and I think this is the correct solution for our sales mobilization project.

Now I am ready to purchase but I am confused. How many licenses do I really need to buy?

This is our setup right now:

1. We have a server located in LA
2. We have 11 sales reps that we will equip with tablet pcs. Each unit will need to be synchronized to our LA office at the end of the day through wingate vpn.

Now my problem is this:

I tried to purchase wingate vpn for 25 licenses but when I get to the checkout page it tells me that I only purchased 1 license and that this will not be a workable license since I must have more than 1.

I don't understand how is this since I am purchasing a 25-user license already. Does this mean that I have to purchase a multi-user license for our server and an individual license to all our tablet units?

Please help since we need to deploy this vpn solution by next week.

Thanks,

Marianne Henson

Hi Marianne

Basically you need a license for every installation of the VPN software.

Since you need to install the software on each remote machine, and also on the server, you need a license for each remote machine and the server.

The license size relates to the size of the local network attached to that installation.

For example, if you have 5 file servers in your head office that your remote users need to access, then on your office VPN installation you would need a 6 user gateway license. If there were many more computers you need to access at your head office, then you would need a bigger gateway license at the head office.

Since your remote users are laptops, you would only need a single user license for each laptop, since it is unlikely that any other computers would be connected to these laptops that would want to access the VPN.

So how many licenses do we need to get for the server?

We are only going to create a vpn connection to a single server that the remote users will be accessing.

Does this mean we will be buying only one license for the server (1-user) and then a single user license also to all the other remote computers.

Thank you very much for your immediate reply.

Hi Marianne,

Yes, that's right, one single user license for the main office (the VPN host) and 11 x single user licenses for the tablets that will be joining. So all up you'll need 12 x single user licenses.
