Unable to open shared folders

Morning,

I was able to get a connection so I can type \\p4 and I can see the folders shared on my remote drive as if it was on the Lan but if I got to open the folders it just hangs forever - Both sites are using ADSL and both have the port forwarded.

Any suggestions?

Which version of the VPN software are you using? We saw symptoms like this when there were MTU issues with WinGate 6.0.4 / WinGate VPN 2.0.4 and earlier

Can you ping machines across the VPN?

If so, try sending larger packets. If all is working properly, you should be able to send fairly large packets (i.e. 10k or so). To send a ping packet of a certain size, use the -l flag, e.g.

ping somemachine -l 2000

If there is a maximum size you can send before it starts timing out, and that size is less than about 1422, then you may have an MTU issue.
