Conflicts with WinGate VPN?

Jan 16 04 3:38 am

Hi.

We've recently installed WinGate VPN on our in-house network, and we've had some initial success. However, when our company president (it's a small corporation) installed the software on his Windows XP laptop, the computer crashed to a blue screen on reboot. He had to uninstall VPN from Safe Mode.

Now, his laptop has a variety of software, and we suspect the firewall he uses for dialup, but aren't sure. Has anyone encountered software conflicts that cause this kind of a problem when WinGate VPN is installed?

Thanks.

You will sometimes run into problems with drivers / products like Firewalls / etc. Normally, the first step is to update all applicable network interface drivers - 8 times out of 10 that fixes the problem. You can also try disabling anything additional (QoS, other firewalls, etc.) and try again.

Can you remember offhand which module reported the BSOD ? Was it QbikHkXP.sys ?

I got the complete screen text, finally:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need ot use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

I have had a problem identical to this but not related to the VPN, it was a radio lan card that was causing it and new drivers cured it. Dunno if this helps but it is the only time I have ever seen this particular error.
