Simple Sharing broke?

Postby Gibbz » Nov 12 04 11:13 pm

since installing wingate software ive noticed the simple sharing option in winxp has been stuffed up and its reverting to the other style of sharing, which doesnt seem to be working. Is there a fix to get simple sharing back as default?

If you open Explorer and go to "Tools" - "Folder Options" you will find a "View" tab. At the bottom of the "Advanced Settings" list is a tickbox for "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)".

Is that ticked or not?

Had a brief play on my home machine with this. Installing WinGate VPN made no difference to the mode. It stayed there during reboots, log offs and switching of user. (XP with SP2)

However, I found that when using a Limited account, rather than an Administrator account, it would default back to what the system was at boot time. If log off/back on OR reboot, it would return back to what the original value was.

Are you logging in as somebody with Administrator rights?

Those last two or three paragraphs (Linking to the TCP entry) might be useful then.
