Just checking which product I would need...

Postby here4real » Dec 02 04 3:57 am

My objective - I have a Windows XP Pro machine that is currently accepting VPN connection but is limited to only 1 connection (due to XP limitation). I want to be able to support multiple incoming VPN connections. Only one VPN server.

Layout - 8 users in total but at max only 3 may need to simultaneously access VPN Server.

Questions - I think all I need is Wingate VPN? For client licenses, would it be 8 for number of potential users, or 3 for the number of concurrent connections?

Do you have 8 separate machines outside of your network that you want to make a connection in from?

You need one VPN license per VPN Connection. (Machine / Node / etc.)
The license size is determined by the number of machines at the appropriate Node that will be participating in the VPN.

Qbik Website wrote:Secondly, for every separate LAN you wish to be able to participate in the VPN, you need to figure out what size gateway license you require. This is based on the size of that LAN. For a LAN with say 25 computers on it, most of whom want to access the VPN, you would need a gateway license for 25 user LAN. If say only 2 of these computers were going to use the VPN, then you could use a gateway license for 3 user LAN

As an example. (From http://www.wingate.com/pricing-vpn.php)

Potentially (but not likely) 8 PCs outside the LAN will want to connect - but not simultaneously. Is it one license per potential VPN client or 1 license per available connections on server?

For the software to be able to run you need a license. A license cannot be used on more than one computer. Thus, one license per potential VPN client (Where the client can have multiple computers on it's LAN participating in the VPN)

Last question. Can I have Wingate running and still keep the Windows XP VPn accepting connections as well? Or would I have to remove the XP accepting connections?

Thanks.

Different protocols, different ports, etc. I haven't tested it, but nothing from WinGate's side will try to stop it. You might need to fiddle with WinGate's firewall, etc. to make sure that everything talks to eachother - but should definately be possible.

WinGate and WinGate VPN are available on 30 day trials. That gives you the opportunity to see if the product will do everything you need from it, etc. and we do provide full support during that time as well.
