Unable to send files

Postby jdokter » Jul 13 05 12:16 pm

I was hoping someone could help me with a current problem I am running into at my office. We're running Wingate V. 5.2.2 and we are able to connect to the host computer and see all the folders. When we try to copy and paste a file into a folder, we receive an error message that says "the specified network name is no longer available". Once you click ok on the error message, the file will show up on the screen. If you try to open it however, you got an error message from the program stating "this file is not in a recognizable format". Do you think if I were to upgrade to the newest version, that this may solve the problem? Will there be conflict issues with the host if the client has a newer version? Any other ideas as to why this may be happening? I'm also getting an additional problem which says "cannot copy path is too deep"

Hi,

Have you tested your MTU size? IT sounds like it could be an MTU problem, you may need to reduce the MTU. Have you read our knowledge base article about this? You can find it here, http://support.qbik.com/index.php?_a=kn ... ils&_i=102

That article seemed to work. I am unable to send any documents larger than about 20,000 bytes. I however only have VPN version 1.06 installed, and the fix they give in the article is for version 2. Is there a fix for the VPN version I have or do I need to upgrade to V.2? Will the upgrade conflict with the host? Does the "other side" need to upgrade their version as well?

You don't have to upgrade to the latest version, you can download an excellent little application called Dr TCP, (http://www.broadbandreports.com/drtcp) and use this to change your MTU size.

If you do upgrade to the latest version you will need to upgrade all VPN nodes to the latest version.

I tried using the program and increased my mtu to 1500 like it suggested, put I still can't send anything more than a couple thousand bytes. I'm still getting the same error messages.

Your MTU would have been 1500 by default. Did you test to find your MTU size as per the knowledge base article? Once you find the maximum sized packet that can be sent without being fragmented you would set your MTU size to this. If you are having these problems your MTU is probably less than 1500.
