Timeout problems

Postby Anila2 » Apr 02 04 10:33 am

Hi,

it is now possible to browse my Windows 2000 host - I can also test it with another Windows XP machine.

But I have problems, when my college tries to join me. He has
- Windows XP
- Wingate installed with the default configuration
- Netgear rooter
- He allows traffic through ports 809, 809, 1074, 1078, 1081, 1083
- Zonealarm is closed
- our internal IP's are on different subnets

Often we don't get any connection, and get timeout instead.
Sometimes we get a short connection, he can not browse - but perhaps, because the connection is automatically disconnected after a short time.
I can also see his machine, and when I double-click on it, he get's a blue screen and his Windows XP system restarts!!

I can ping his IP
he can not ping my IP

Unfortunately I need again help!!

Best regards
Anila

Hi Cristalina,

From a post from Lars http://forums.qbik.com/viewtopic.php?t=1519 he says that turning off the RIP client on the router stopped his clients from disconnecting. You might have the college check that theirs is turned off.

Matt

Rip client

Postby Anila2 » Apr 02 04 11:14 am

Hi Matt,

thank you for this message - I hope, that my college knows, where to turn off the RIP client. He has a Netgear router. If somebody could tell us, where exactly he needs to check, this would help me.

Best regards
Anila
