If you have a Linksys router (or similar), make sure that under the Dynamic Routing tab in the router setup that the RIP listeners are turned OFF.

I have rip2b enabled in my vpn setups on 2 linksys routers but this is using the router as the default gateway. I also have RIP2 installed on all the network machines apart from the client/server.

When I enabled RIP on our router, clients couldn't reliably stay connected to the VPN server. Switched it back off and everything worked again. Strange. Maybe has something to do with my topology.

I use a Cable modem, and a Linksys router, and I don't have a fixed IP address. Can I still set up a VPN server?

You would have to use a dynip forwarding service. I think deerfield may offer it or you could use myip.com? dynip.com? /org whatever. The other possibility is to change the client whenever the server ip changes. You may want to monitor how often it changes. Sometimes you can go logged in for weeks with the same ip.
