Very slow connection

Postby Anila2 » Apr 14 04 7:22 am

Hi,

meanwhile we can establish a Wingate-connection and browsing is possible too.

But although me and my college are using fast DSL connections, the Wingate connection is extremely slow. My college opened the Pegasus email program on my PC (I am the Wingate host), and we had to wait 4 minutes, until the first screen opened and asked for the username!!!

Usually this program opens within seconds. We have the same problem with all programs, but the sense of our wingate connection is, that our college can work from home on my PC.

Again I need support.

Best regards

Hi Cristalina,

It was nice working with you again today. It seems that 64kb/s is too slow for your connection, perhaps you should talk to your provider?

Hi Matt,

thank you for your patience!

Today I had a session with my college, and indeed the upload speed is slow. I have installed the t-online speedmanager, and could see, that the upload speed varied between 40kbit/s up to 160 kbit/s. Also the download speed was slow, but when I am downloading files from the internet, then the download speed is high (more than 500 kbit/s).

Is there something inside of Wingate, which makes the VPN connection faster?

Best regards

Upload speed is usually determined by your provider, so if the college has a slow upload speed you can only receive the data at that rate. If you're getting 500kb/s from the internet it will be from someone with a fast connection like a T1/T3.

I think the best thing would be to install the software on the client machine at the other end of the VPN and see if that speeds things up, then they would only need to share files, not try to run the whole app over the VPN.
