Wingate VPN and Microsoft OutLook

Postby erosolmi » Apr 14 04 9:49 am

I'm using VPN to connect from home Microsoft OutLook to my office Microsoft Exchange 5.5 server.

I can connect correctly connect with my mail box and see all the mails but when I try to open any mail, OutLook goes to timeout and give error "out of memory" than hangs.
Also directory syncronization of OutLook is hanging up on the same way going timeout.

Does anyone have experionced something similar?

VPN is working for file sharing, ping is ok with the server, services are up,
all the other VPN usage is working. Just OutLook is not working.

How is your account setup in Outlook to connect to the Exchange Server ? Does it go through a local connection (E.g. using a locally known name / private IP) or does it use an internet connection ? (Through a public IP / DNS name)

Pascal,

when I'm in the office I am on the same network of Exchange server using network 10.10.130.x/255.255.255.0
Server Name is called ERBOEX and reply on IP 10.10.130.13. I connect to the server using server name. This exchange server is not visible on the internet. To get/send email from internet we use a DMZ email server just as email transponder.

When I go home, I connect to internet using an ADSL line at 640kb and I get a dynamic pubblic IP. Then I run Wingate VPN and connect to office VPN.

From now on I can connect to shared folders on my office servers without any problem, I can ping Exchange server, so in general all seems working fine.

Then I run OutLook (in native Exchange connection) and I'm able to connect to Exchange server without changing anything in my config, so ERBOEX as Exchange server name. I can connect correctly and see all my mail folders and all the mails.

Problem starts when I double click on any mail. Outlook waits and after some time gives "Insufficient memory to perform the operation" than hangs.

In the meantime I discovered this Microsoft link showing all the ports used by Exchange Server http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... bContent=1

I will double check again my firewall to see if some IMAP config is missing.

Thanks a lot

Yes, it was my fault.
I didn't setup a correct Trusted subnet in my ZoneAlarm client setup.
