Start from scratch

Hi All, complete newbie here.

I want to setup a VPN on my server at work. It is behind a router. I have created a VPN Host account. For starters, I have opened all the ports that appear to be common with wingate vpn.

I don't know if that is all I need to do on the server side?

Next, on the client side. Do I have to use wingate vpn and create a VPN to join account? or can I use win98SE / XP Pro VPN function?

I tried to find a step by step guide, but I think I am screwing something up somewhere?

Any help would be great!

Hi

Yes, you need to create a "VPN to join" on the client.

On the server, you can export settings which generates a file that you can use to import on the client side to fill in most of the parameters to connect. Things you will need to modify are the IP address, and enter the password.

Your firewall at the server site will need to be configured to forward traffic on port 809 TCP and UDP (or whichever ports you are using on the server for VPN control and data channel) through to the VPN server.
