Problems with VPN and Win98 boxes

Postby AKTech » Feb 14 04 7:55 am

We are having a lot of repeat problems with VPN on Win98 machines. Upon install the VPN works fine but a day or two later it stops working - and in the Gatekeeper window under connectivity - Extended Networking is gone. We reinstall the client and it works again for a while.

This keeps reocurring with a large number of our tech laptops running Win 98. Is there any solution for this?

are these machines restarted often?

when you say the ENS disappears, does that mean the icon disappears in GateKeeper completely, or just is showing as disabled or not installed?

The clients are fieldtech laptops so they are constantly restarted...many times a day as the tech moves from call to call. When the problem occurs, it looks like the extended network part was never installed at all.

earlier versions would reset the driver to not start if the machine was rebooted 3 times without WinGare starting.

Normally on win98 WinGate will start each time the system comes up, unless that has been disabled in the registry?
