WingateVPN and Windows VPN

May 26 07 1:04 am

Hi,

Because some of my users went on Vista, i have installed on my wingate Server Windows 2003 a standard windows VPN.

Windows VPN when use alone is working fine
Wingate VPN when Routing Services are shut down on the server works fine

When Routing services are turned on, the wingate VPN works but it becomes impossible to ping the server itself, while it is still possible to ping any machine in the LAN...

Please help

Cheers

Routing, then? can you do "route print" command and make sure there are not route conflicts?

Try the following:

(Windows) Start menu --> run --> mmc --> File menu --> Add/Remove Snap in --> RRAS --> <Server name> --> IP Routing --> Double Click <Network card that VPN's connect to>

On that dialogue that is presented there are two buttons - Inbound / Outbound filters. For the sake of testing please do the following:

Inbound Filter --> New button --> OK (don't add anything)
Outbound Filter --> New button --> OK (don't add anything)

Test

*If it works, then review what protocols / ports you want to filter for Inbound / Outbound traffic.

Hi tried that but there were no filter activated.
So it didn't help

Hi

Are you able to take a look in GateKeeper under Extended Networking -> Routing and send us a transcript of the routes there? These are the routes that WinGate sees.

We've found in the past that Routing and Remote Access makes IPHLPAPI.DLL return invalid route table entries. We use this to enumerate the system routes, and have code which attempts to "fix" the bad route table we get from the OS when R&RAS is running. It's possible there is still a problem there that is interfering with WinGate VPN.

Also can you check what routes are published in the VPN when R&RAS is running and when it is not?

Regards

Adrien
