Is Wingate right for me?

I'm wondering if Wingate is the right software for what I need to do below.

My job has free wide open 802.11b, but I don't want them snooping on my surfing and emails.
I'm currently looking at an IPAQ 4155 with built in Bluetooth and 802.11b since I can't pull out my laptop whenever I feel like it at work.

But I need to establish an encrypted connection between my job's wireless network and my home PC. Then my home PC has to fetch the data that my
PDA wants. That way my job won't be able to read my emails or tell what I'm doing.
Also, will it be a problem accessing secure sites over the VPN connection?

I believe what I need is Wingate but I'm new to VPN and proxy servers so I figured I would ask here.

My home PC is behind a hardware firewall (Netgear FR114P with SPI and NAT routing) but I can forward ports if need be. My home PC also runs Sygate personal firewall. I have a 24/7 cable modem connection courtesy of Comcast.

Anyone with suggestions, ideas, comments, etc...?
