Problems Connecting Two Offices with VPN

Postby pebbert9 » Jun 12 07 9:34 am

Hello,

I have two offices I'm trying to get connected with a VPN.

Both are running Wingate 6.2.1.

I have the connection established and the remote office's Wingate computer is able to browse the main office's network properly.

But, computers behind the Wingate servers are not able to browse the oposite network, but can ping by name and IP.

The servers themselves can browse both sides.

I have on both Wingate servers-
Local Participation set to Local Network
Allow Tunnels To/From all nodes

I also have installed the RIP2 client on the remote network computers.

The main office has the IP range 192.168.1.x
The remote office has the IP range 192.168.2.x

What is the best way to figure out my problem?

( I have tried the ping -l 1500 command, which works )

Thank you,

My Interpretation:

- There are two WinGate servers in remote locations - Server 1 and Server 2.
- Each WinGate Server has it's own local network which needs to participate in the VPN.
- You can successfully create a VPN connection between the two WinGate servers.
- Server 1 can browse all of Servers 2 resources as well as Server 2's LAN Clients.
- Server 2 can browse all of Server 1 resources as well as the Server 1's LAN Clients.
- LAN Client to Remote LAN Client connectivity is not working although you can ping by name and ip address.

Question:

Can you please check to see if you can open shares via the command line? For example, if the remote LAN Client is 192.168.2.5 then to access their shares you could:

Code: Select all
(Windows) Start menu --> run --> \\192.168.2.5

Hi James,

Your interpretation is correct.

Here's is where I currently stand:

Server 1 can browse Server 2's LAN clients
Server 2 can browse Server 1's LAN clients

Server 1's LAN clients can browse Server 2's LAN Clients
But, Server 2's LAN Clients cannot browse Server 1's LAN Clients

When I try to open shares via the command line on Server 2's LAN Clients, I get an error,

Not Accessible - You might not have permission to use this resource, contact the administrator to find out if you have permission. The remote procedure failed.

I get this message even if I'm logged in as Administrator on the Server 2's LAN Clients.

Any ideas?

Hi,
Just to clarify the connectivity status - you can ping client computers from both sides - is that correct?

Server 1's LAN clients can browse Server 2's LAN Clients
But, Server 2's LAN Clients cannot browse Server 1's LAN Clients

Thanks. And I also presume that Server 2's LAN Clients can ping Server 1's LAN Client (as Genie was trying to clarify).

When I try to open shares via the command line on Server 2's LAN Clients, I get an error,

When using the IP Address as instructed - correct?

I get this message even if I'm logged in as Administrator on the Server 2's LAN Clients.

1. Please confirm the Windows Firewall and ICS is disabled for the sake of testing if you deem it safe. It is best disabled then stopped in the Windows Services.
(Windows) Start menu --> Run --> services.msc

2. If this is an Active Directory can you can review the difference between Server 2's DNS setup and Server 1's DNS setup?

3. Are folders shared on the Server 1’s network?

4. Do you have any other third party security suites installed on these computer that cannot be accessed? Have you tried disabling them?

5. Does turning off Simple File Sharing help?
(Windows) Start menu --> run --> explorer --> Tools menu --> Folder Options --> View tab --> Scroll to the bottom.

I tried turning off Simple File Sharing, no difference
I tried turning off the Windows Firewall Service, no difference

I can ping in both directions by name and IP.

Does anyone know if I need to add a subnet to Windows Server 2003 in order to get a non-local subnet to work.

My Wingate Server 1 is not on my Primary domain controller.

Wingate Server 1 is 192.168.1.1
Wingate Server 2 is 192.168.2.1
Windows Primary Domain Controller is 192.168.1.3

Do I need to add the subnet 192.168.2.x to the Windows Server in some way so that it knows it's a local address?

Thank you,
