VPN & GateKeeper

Postby labull » Oct 17 03 11:58 am

After establishing a VPN connection I'd like to make configuration changes to the WinGate Server from the remote system.

I double click on the VPN monitor to open GateKeeper, enter the IP address of the WinGate server along with the WG administrator username and password.

When I hit OK I get the following message

There was an internal error in WinGate.
You should check your system settings

A connection is being made to the host server since if I enter an incorrect password, I get the appropriate error message.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

More info on this:

Use RRAS/PPTP to connect to the network instead of VOG.

1. Double click on VPN monitor to launch GateKeeper and attempt to connect to the WG server.

Same error.

2. Copy GateKeeper from WG server to the remote system and launch.

Same error.

3. Launch GateKeeper from a drive mapped to the WG server.

This allows me to successfully connect to the WG server and the local VPN engine.

Baffling, ain't it?

Are the versions of WG / GK you are running between the two systems the same ? (I.e. is the local machine WG VPN and remote machine WG VPN the same version ?)

All the same then. I'll ask QA to take a look.

Further testing has traced this to a problem with Plugins.

If you copy the Plugins directory to the same directory as GateKeeper.exe all will work correctly.

Also, if you do not copy the Plugins dircetory and try to run Gatekeeper, if you click on Plugins button when GateKeeper is in it's confused state, GateKeeper will disappear from the screen but the process will still show in Task Manager.
