Licensing query

Postby lgemmell » Jul 06 04 11:45 am

I'm considering Wingate VPN for one of my clients but I don't understand how your licensing scheme will apply to them.

They have 11 computers in all. One is a desktop machine running WinXP Pro which acts as a makeshift file server. Every other computer is a laptop which could be potentially used both on and off the premises.

Those who are off the premises at any one time are only interested in accessing the files on the makeshift "server" machine.

How many licenses will this require?

Hi Lachlan,

At this time you will need a one user license for the file server. You will also need a one user license for each laptop that needs to access the VPN.

If you have any further question please let me know.

Matt, one more question about licensing.

We have a network with a server and 6 computers.
Two of the users need remote access to their computers.

Do I need a three-user license for the server and two local computers, and a separate one-user license for each remote computer?

Or do I need a single license with six users?

You're right the first time! A 3 user license on the server will allow the joiners to join the VPN and access the network, and each client, because they are separated will need a one user license to join the VPN.

If you had a second LAN that was joining the VPN that the two remote users were on then you would have just a second 3 user license.
