Evaluating Wingate VPN

Postby Chopper666 » Jul 07 04 9:39 pm

In my initial stage of testing I am trying to connect to my own vpn from the same location but am getting the message 'Connection refused by remote host'.
I use broadband (NTL) and have a Belkin router on which I have opened port 809 for TCP and UDP.
Whenever I start the service I get the system message DHCP Service - This service will not operate. There are no private address interfaces bound to this service, and public address allocation is denied. You may need to renumber your network. My router is set to only allow access to specified mac addresses, is this causing a problem?

Additional Question

I've just realised Wingate VPN seems to have a built in DHCP engine. If I turn it off I lose the error message. Is there any advantage to letting wingate handle my DHCP instead of the router?

If you use WinGate's DHCP server, it will by default specify its own IP address as the default gateway for the LAN, and DNS server.

You can override this by editing the DHCP scopes and options of course.

So there may be not much in it either way.

Hmmm... so this probably doesn't apply to my original problem then. Perhaps someone who has successfully setup a wingate vpn and connected to it from the same network could give me a breakdown of how they set up their machines?
I want to demo vpn to a customer of mine but I don't want the embarassment of setting it up on their site and then finding when their other office try to connect they receive the same error message.

Hi,

We have a test VPN set-up here that you can connect to, I'll email you the config file.

Regards,

Matt
