IPSEC Support

Postby toetouches » Jul 08 04 12:26 pm

I have a client running wingate 5.2.3. They require a vpn connection for unix based telnet services, this is currently being handled by a PIX box. My question is are there any plans to include IPSEC support into wingate vpn ?

WG 6 supports IPSEC NAT traversal from beta 3 - but both client and server sides should be NAT-T compatible.

Thanks Genie,

Do you have any documentation on setup/configuration of a IPSEC NAT VPN using wingate ?

Nope. BUt there are two options:
1. Use Wingate VPN - it is much easier to handle in firewalled/NATed environment
2. Check Microsoft web site - there should be a page about it.

I'd suggest to use Wingate VPN if you do not have sepcific client/server relations that require IPSEC only VPN to be used.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Here is the situation, my client uses a telnet based application for shipping and handling. This application is owned and operated by a large shipping and logistics firm. This application requires a vpn to my clients site for remote printing of packing labels etc. Currently the VPN uses 2 Cisco 500 series PIX boxes which seems to work ok, however we have just upgraded our clients servers and are running wingate 5.2.3 as internet gateway and firewall.

I would like to replace the Cisco PIX on my clients side and just use wingate VPN, is this possible ?

No - Wingate VPN and CISCO VPN are not compatible - you have to use the same VPN product on both sides.
