VPN comunication very very slow

Postby f_prado » Jul 23 04 9:27 pm

I am prooving a vpn between my office and home.
I can see from home all machines in my office, and sometime connect to them.
But, the 95 % of the conections, are interrupted by timeout.
So, I cannot see the content of any directory in the office machines, I cannot add my computer to the domain, or review my e-mail.
My wingate server at office is at the same time my internal DNS, my E-mail server and the default gateway of the net.
On the other side, I have 2 linux server in the net, and i can browse those servers (with dificulties) better that the windows machines.

I have made pings in both directions, and the result are:
- 32 bytes pakets 163 ms
- 1400 bytes pakets 370 ms

I cannot transfer pakets bigger as 1400 bytes.

At office i have an ADSL 512/300 on a Windows 2000 server and at home an ADSL 256/128 on a windows xp workstation.

Can someone help me?

Hi

Which versions of the VPN are you running on each end?

We had some issues with MTU on VPN 1.2.2, and in some cases on 1.2.3.

Have you tried the WinGate 6.0 beta? This has the VPN in there as well.

Those two are basically the same version. You may have better luck trying the WinGate 6.0 RC, however be aware that the WinGate 6.0 RC as a server won't take VPN connections from 1.2.3 or 5.2.3 clients, so you would need to upgrade both ends.

I have replaced the client side with v.6, and the communication are better.
I cann't replace the server side due to service necesities.
So, I wait until version 6 is released to continue with the probes.

Version 6.0 is now in GM, you can download build 984 from our website. You might follow the instructions for the MTU tests in our "Guideline for setting up a functional VPN" under the White Papers section in support.
