I can not accees any resources in VPN

Postby ardoland » Jul 27 04 10:04 pm

Hi

I am evaluating your WinGate 5.2.3, with VPN ver. 1.

I installed the WinGate in Win2000 server with VPN, behind this server a view computers in my network, it is running as Internet Proxy, I am using also Symantec Internet Security 2002 as firewall.

I installed WinGate also in my home computer with VPN. As usual, I set up VPN to Host in office, and VPN to Join in home, I setup the option Local Participation to “Local Network”

It can connect well, But I can not access any computer from home including the WinGate server.

I can ping it by it’s public internet IP address, but that’s all, I can not access any resources in this server or any computer’s behind it.

To go around this, I disabled WinGate FireWall from “Extended Network Driver”, but no hope.

I have three qoustions :-

1- How can i access my resources in the server or the network behind it ?.
2- Can I use Microsoft VPN client at home to access WinGate VPN in office ?.
3- Why when I setup Microsoft VPN from “Routing and remote access” WinGate stop working as proxy and I can not access internet behimd the server and in the server it self ?.

Thanks

1. You need to make sure that Symantec is not blocking your data tunnel. The data tunnel will normally be traffic coming in on port 809, UDP. Check the logs for that - if you are behind a NAT device, you might need to forward port 809 UDP to your server / client at home as well.

Ensure that the two networks (Home vs Office) are on different subnets. Otherwise, routing is going to be causing you problems. You might want to refer to our setup guide, that takes you through the basic trouble-shooting and setup problems with the VPN. You can find that in our White Papers section, under Support.

2. No, the two VPN products use different protocols.
