WinGate / WinGate VPN (V5.0.10)

Postby wingater » Oct 23 03 12:56 am

i'm trying to connect different Networks with WinGate VPN.

e.g.
1 Network (WinGate as Gateway) 192.168.3.x
Connection to Internet: ADSL VPN to ISP
This Networks should be connected to the server

2 Network (WinGate as Gateway) 192.168.2.x
Connection to Internet: ADSL VPN to ISP
This Network should be connected to the Server too

3 Network (WinGate as Server)
Connection to Internet: permanent IP no Dial up

The Server hosts two VPNs. Network 1 and 2 don't have a direct connection. All the traffic should go to the server and back to the Gateways. The problem is that the connection breaks after a few minutes.

Have i do put on the Routerfunction on the Servermachine?

What does that mean: The node have already registred to the VPN? I got the message sometimes.

I read all the infos about it but i couldn't save the problem?

help please!

Node already registered means that when you connect, the server thinks you are still connected from last time.

Sometimes when you disconnect it is not a clean break.

As for timing out, that sounds like the control channel is breaking when you connect the tunnel.

Does the tunnel show up in the clients as Active? Or in Statis?

the tunnels where flickering because i closed the prots from 1024-4096 and therefore it was not possible to connect the networks. i think so!!

i opened these ports and ... it works! :-)

thanks for you help.

do you know what ports Windows 2000 uses to establish a connection to ISP with VPN.

Are there any security problems if these ports opened?

Normally if you are connecting to your ISP with VPN, it doesn't use "ports" as such - more likely a distinct protocol... ports are used with TCP and UDP, but the concept is not really valid with most VPN protocols like GRE, or L2TP etc.

You would need to ask your ISP in short.

I am surprised that you need to have those ports open however to get a working control channel connection.

Is this for "LAN connection to the Internet" ?

Hello Adrien,

in order to get a working tunnel, i'd to open these ports in area "Connection from the Internet" otherwise W2000 was hanging up (dialer is ment) in a few seconds. at first i believed wingate was cutting the connection.

Why these ports are in default config open?

Would it be possible that wingates firewall influences the protocol stack?
(my ISP uses PPTP)

do you know what services in W2000 prof. have to run to get a minimum configuration for WinGate VPN?
