Local Network/Local Machine

Postby ajdionne » Aug 27 04 10:56 am

Hi!

I discover two bugs and I do not know if they are related to me or to VPN Host.

1- If you access host configuration and exit without cliking apply it wipes the port 809 on extended networking / port security.

2- When setting the host from access local machine to access local network it always redefault to local machine thus prevnting access to machine behind server.

Any Idea?

What version of WinGate / WinGate VPN are you running ?

What licenses do you have ? If you only have a single user license, the machine should not allow you to export Local Network, as that would allow more machines on than the license allows.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello Pascal,

I am running wingate V6.1. Your sale department explain me licensing so I have one license for my laptop and at home my server has a 3 users licenses. Those licenses where installed a couple days ago. I discover that problem last night.

I have created tough that VPN host when server had only one license. Perhaps with the new licensing I should recreate host.

Let me know.

Regards

I'm looking at the code now, and it says you need one of the following two conditions to qualify for Local Network:

1. A VPN license > single user
2. A WinGate license that grants access to VPN (Normally Enterprise)

Do any of your licenses on the server match those conditions ?

Pascal,

My laptop has a single user licence. Your sale department did the purchase for me

The wingate server is license as 5 users (minimum license for home) and the Wingate VPN licence installed under licensing in wingate as a 3 user license.

Your sale department told me that should work. I have two computer behing server and both have rip2 installed.

I do not know what else to say here.

My Wingate is not the pro or the enterprise version. Do I need to spent more money to upgrade this setup for me to be able to see my computer?

No, that sounds correct. I've just been talking to Matt, and we ran through your setup in the test lab just to make doubly sure that all was right and it behaved exactly as I expected it to.

So, I want to confirm the situation. If you pick "Local Network" in the VPN User Interface, then click "OK" and "OK" again, the next time you go into that dialog the system has reverted it back to "Local Machine".

If you go into License Management on your server and you select the license that is installed it comes up as a "WinGate VPN 3 User License" (Or some text to that effect) That's correct, right ?

Do you have "Auto-Save" changes on? If you do not have that on and you do not manually click the "Save" button in GateKeeper, the change will be made only for one run of the engine. (I.e. a reboot / stop-start of the WinGate Engine will undo your changes)

Pascal,

Say thanks to Matt from me for more of his time. I was extremely satisfy with his services.

Yes indeed at that time there is two overlapping window. I select local network - O.K. - window close - apply - last window close. I go back there and it is back to local machine. Note: I also did a save function right after last window close and still have same problem.

My autosave is the default install of wingate. I haven't touch it since first install done.

(English is a second language to me so hope you follow me)

And that is the case, correct ? You also did restart WinGate after you added the new 3-user license ? If you haven't, WinGate will be unaware of the new license conditions which would allow it to have those options available.

Soory Pascal,

Yes indeed the license manager indicates 3 users licenses. The server prompt me for a restart meaming gatekeeper stops then restart ( i think). That computer has also been rebooted many time since.

I am at work but I can access the server through terminal services. So if there is anything you would like i can do it from here.

Note This activation gives you the reduced features applicable to your version 1 key. To access the newer features you will need to purchase an upgrade.

Those licenses on the server should definately allow that configuration to work. We've setup a similar configuration today to test it, but will reverify it to see if there could be problems elsewhere. (It might take us a day or so to go through that process, however)

To get things up and running quickly however, you should be able to simply activate a trial license on the WinGate Server - this will give you the additional functionality of an Enterprise license (Everything) while we work out where the problem is.

Hi

We tracked down the problem.

It is related to VPN gateway licenses for 3 user LANs only, and is a problem in our activation server.

When we generate an activation file for an older version key (i.e. WinGate VPN 1.x) we generate a new WinGate 6-compatible key.

This key then is inserted into the activation file, and this key is the one that WinGate actually uses.

There was a problem selecting parameters in the generation for this new key, which will affect 3 user keys only.

We have fixed the problem in the activation server, and tested it, so the solution is to simply re-activate the license for the 3 user VPN key.

Sorry for the inconvenience

Regards
