server certificates

Postby stollie » Sep 11 04 10:46 am

Hi,

I just downloaded Wingate VPN and I am trying to test it out with my brother. When I add a new vpn I attempt to create a certificate I dont see a tab for X509 certificate. I dont see anything regarding certificates in the software at all other than the help file.

Is this because it is a trial version?

Thanks!

In the hosted VPN you should have a drop-down combo to allow you to select a certificate. There should also be a button to allow you to generate one, right next to the drop down. This will be on the general page of the VPN to Host you are creating.

ok, I guess i was confused, thinking I had to have an ssl fingerprint in order to connect. Always helps to look a 7th time - "check server Fingerprint" box!

Thanks for the prompt response!

Cheers,

Difference, here, Seth.

1. The Hosted VPN needs a certificate. Without it, the SSL negotiation will fail. You generate this certificate from the General Page on the hosted VPN.

2. The Joining VPN does not need a certificate. However, it has the option of using the Server's fingerprint to validate that the server is who it thinks it is. If the Server certificate's fingerprint does not match what the joiner thinks it should be, it disconnects.

Hope that clears it up,
Pascal
