VPN Connection Causes Server Reboot

Postby ccsoft » Sep 16 03 8:16 am

Hi,

I have a client setting up the WinGate VPN. He is finding that the VPN Server machine reboots every time someone accesses the VPN. He can connect to the VPN but cannot browse anything. He noticed in the event logs that there were numerous save dumps and one service control manager event that showed that the Qbik Wingate Engine service terminated unexpectedly.

Also when they made a VPN connection there is bug check reboot. This error is different every time but is consistent with the times that a VPN connection is made. There were a few errors mentioning the Background Intelligent transfer Service – not sure what that is…..

One Bug Check error that is consistent in a few instances is:

The computer has rebooted from a bug check. The bugcheck was 0x000000e1 (0xf7215860, 0x00000002, 0x82f857a0, 0x82f857a8). A dump was saved in c:\windows\memory.dmp.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

5.07 on a Windows XP SP 1A
He's also seeing the ENS memory allocation threshold has been reached.
He has sent me all his logs (no debug on) if they are any help.

basically any reboot issue or bluescreen normally points to an issue with the driver, and with the current 5.0.x driver, we are quite susceptible to variations in miniports (NIC drivers).

I could suggest you try the new XP beta drivers, but for VPN, they would need to be installed on each WinGate VPN machine in the VPN, since they communicate slightly differently for VPN traffic.

These are available from

http://www.qbik.com/downloads/drivers/qbikhkxp.zip

However ideally these require the 5.0.8 engine to fully function (there will be display problems in the firewall screen)

We are looking at getting a limited release beta out this friday, and a public release available shortly after that.
