host not accessible

Postby james007 » Nov 01 04 12:19 pm

Hi,
I'm new to this so apologies for my ignorance.
I am trying to connect 2 remote PCs together so that both can work simultaneously on the same application.
The host PC is connected via an ADSL modem. The client is connected through a NetGear adsl router/modem.
As I can't be in both places at the same time, I'm first trying to test with both PCs connected through the router/Modem (netgear) - this maybe where i'm having the problem. Both PCs have fixed IPs, i've set up the firewall to accept port 809 and i can ping both PCs. I've also set to the router to RIP_2B...
When I try and connect to the host i get the "not accessible" error dialog - which I have understood to be an issue with routing.
I've looked thru the forum but am now well and truly stuck.

Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

Hi James,

If you are using two pcs on the same LAN to test the VPN then you might run into some difficulty. Each end of the VPN needs to be on a different subnet, otherwise you will get routing problems. If you check the tunnels, do you see them as active or in conflict?

If the tunnels show a conflict then you'll need to change IP addresses, probably on the internal NIC.
